  1. My family would like to foster an animal if needed. We live in Auburn, have two cats and have a fenced back yard.

I live in the Altadena area off 459 and 280. I have a fenced yard and large house. I will be happy to foster an animal if it helps anyone. I have a young female cat (indoors) and a shih-tzu (neutered male – also only inside) – both very loving and used to being around other animals. My yard fence is low – so, probably only small dogs or non-runners. I would treat any foster as my own – meaning inside and only out to use the potty. If I can help please contact me.

    • Melissa Williams

      bobbie,

      My name is Melissa Williams.

A feral cat at my mom’s house had 6 kittens near her back porch shortly before the storm hit. The afternoon of the storm she managed to move 4 of the kittens but apparently was unable to come back for the other 2 before the storm got really bad. I took them in when it became evident that she was not going to make it back. I bottle fed them for several weeks. They are precious. We named one “Stormy” and the other “Fury”. I am unable to keep them any longer and want them to go to a good home – maybe to a child or someone that has been unable to recover their own lost pet from the storm. Can you please help? Please call me at 205-230-3669.

  3. do you know where we can go to help in our area to search and rescue pets? i live close to hackleburg and philcampbell.

I would like to add my name to a volunteer list. I worked at a vet clinic for several years (up until I was pregnant in 2005). Anything and everything I am willing to help with. Sorting through donations, distribution of them, helping take animals to the vet etc.

    Thank you in advance.

  5. I know it will be a while before people can be reunited with their pets/companions. We live in South Carolina and are willing to help take in some exotic pets such as: reptiles, parrots, etc. until families can get back on their feet. If you would like for us to help please contact us at catnip.exotics@yahoo.com or lathamlb68@yahoo.com or facebook: catnipsexotics, lisa latham, dewayne latham or please call us at 803-943-6050. Sending money and supplies I know is a blessing but also having room to house these pets is also another issue. Please don’t hessitate to contact us to help foster until homes are restored. (we are not licensed; but we are working towards that, just people who are concerned about helping victims of this devistation.) Please respond so that I know someone received this message. Thanks Lisa Latham

  7. I live in Lynn Haven and have seven indoor cats. I could foster small indoor lizards, geckos, frogs. I have a fenced yard for a small dog. I couldn’t leave him with the cats indoors, but he’d have lots of space.

  8. Prefer animal on heartworm prevention. Dreadful mosquitoes here.

Do you know of any volunteer opportunities or groups going out tomorrow to help rescu animals in Bham area? I have four of my own and because we were not affected I would like to help. I know how I would feel if mine were gone.

  10. I live in Pennsylvania and will adopt, preferably a large breed male dog, any age. If adoption isn’t an option, I will foster but would much rather provide an older dog with a forever home. Please contact me at jeannie1003@msn.com or (215)630-4135. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you, Jeannie Paxson

My husband & I live in Hamilton, AL & we would be happy to foster animal a displaced dog for as long as needed. Who do we need to contact?

    • I have been desperately trying to find someone to take an elderly female black lab mix I found in Vernon,Al last night, she is sweet, potty trained and we even walked her on a leash.she only has 4 teeth .I cannot keep her and having a hard time finding a rescue group, please contact me if interested.

  12. Do you have a fund set up where we can donate money to this cause? I’d also be interested in adopting an orphaned animal after the two month time period has elapsed. Do you have any information on that?

  13. Pretty sure Lu Lu has been reunited..

  14. Donna Barham

I’m with the Bigbee Humane Society in Demopolis, AL, and we have some people wanting to donate things. However, I was told Tuscaloosa Metro had so much they were giving it away. Do they still need supplies? I told them you may be handing it out to people that need it. Please let me know what you still need and we will try to help. Also, do you need volunteers hands on? I will also try to give out that info to those who ask. After next week I may be able to foster a couple of dogs. Let me know if I’m needed and I will pick them up.

  15. How do I go about making a donation for the shelters?

  16. We would love to foster an animal in Huntsville, AL. Cat, dog, rat, bird etc…. 🙂 We lost our fence in the tornado but can make shift one if needed for a dog. Contact me!

I live in the East Texas area and have room to foster. I have 3 dogs currently and all are spayed and neutered. We live in the country the dogs will be able to have plenty of room to play supervised and stay inside otherwise. I have vet contacts to verify this. All animals will be treated as if they are my own. Thanks and from one rescuer to another- what you are doing is awesome!!

  18. This is a great tool! As this progresses, it would be awesome to see those pets on the Lost/Found pages moved over to a Reunited Page with the story of where they live, where they were found, and how they were united! Thanks for all you are doing to match up these families back with their animal family members!!!

I’m willing to foster care a small dog or even house train a small size puppy for the next nine months. I cannot foster any longer than that due to moving in the spring. If an older dog needs a foster home, would have to be small size. If there is a need, I’m available for a time. I know I would want someone to provide love an attention to my baby until I could get to her. And further details, contact me at terry.mewbourn@yahoo.com

Need some advice, please. Since the tornado we’ve had two, now three, cats living near our house in Pleasant Grove. We know that two of these cats belong to our next door neighbor, whose house was damaged and is not being lived in currently. Apparently the people living there abandoned their cats. They rarely show up at their house and as a result their cats ended up hungry and very unhappy until my family started feeding them. We can’t take the cats in because we have two dogs that REALLY want to meet and/or chase the cats, so having cats indoors is not an option. I spoke with the family last week who pretty much told me they weren’t going to take care of their cats. I told them I was feeding them. They said thanks. The cats were all around us while we were talking. When the family left that evening, they didn’t take the cats.

So, it seems to me they don’t want to take care of their cats. I can’t take care of them the way they need to be taken care of. One of them has an open wound behind its ear, and the only time it will come close to me is when I feed them, so I can’t treat the wound. I am very concerned for the cats’ well-being, but I don’t want to step on the owners’ toes. So I need advice about what I can do with these cats since I am NOT the owner.

If you can help me with this, I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks very much.

  22. Tornado dog needing foster or adoption. He was injured in the tornado in Tuscaloosa but now fully recovered but never claimed. He’s had all his shots and been neutered. He tested positive for heartworms but we have heartworm treatment available for him in Tuscaloosa. His picture can be seen on the found page toward the bottom. He’s a black and white (freckles on his face). 48 lbs. He has on a red harness in the pictures. Llee@bham.rr.com. 205-706-4335.
